The Barna Group reported that although 85% of parents believe that it is their primary responsibility to morally and spiritually guide and help develop their children, more than 2 out of 3 of them abdicate that responsibility to their local church. Moreover, less then 10% of parents who attend church with their children, read the Bible, pray or share in an act of serving together in a typical week. This generation is becoming increasingly un-churched and disconnected from a personal trust and faith in Jesus Christ. The key to influencing today’s youth is a personal discipleship connection-not a program-based model. Both the wisdom of scripture and contemporary research agree that the intimate guidance passed on by a trusted father or guide offers the greatest potential for a life-changing discovery of God’s purposes.

The Compass

This foundational father/son 6-session resource is given to every Passage Conference participant. It provides the biblical “river banks” for the rite of passage commitment. Every young man can begin to experience the essence of being a man as he learns to:

(N) Navigate His Heart to Follow Jesus

(W) Walk in the Path of God’s Word

(S) Serve the Brotherhood

(E) Engage in the Battle

In summary, our passion is to fuel the heart-to-heart relationship between a young man and a guide, preferably his father, in order to help him successfully traverse the formative adolescent years and follow Jesus into the later stages of life.

Our conferences and resources are designed to be a catalyst to serve the churches with the necessary ‘scaffolding’ to have their own ongoing, biblically based rite of passage initiative. Consequently, we foresee a day when a church can confidently send a young man to college or into the marketplace knowing his unique design as a man, what it takes to follow Christ, and have within him the beginning skills to navigate his faith within the culture.
